Wed. Oct. 31 Depending on your departure city, everyone will fly overnight on various flights to ROME. Enjoy dinner and a movie as you cross the Atlantic Ocean to one of the most exciting countries in Europe.
Thu. Nov. 1 Arrive ROME today and transfer to your hotel. Balance of the day is at leisure, including a get together in the evening with information on all the things that have been planned for you on this special Tour.
Fri. Nov. 2 Following breakfast, this morning’s highlight will be Touring the Rome Bethel Home and strolling around the gardens seeing the unique model of Jerusalem. Your Tour Escort will then have some suggestions on what to see and do as the balance of the day will be free to do as you please. This evening there will be a Welcome Reception, followed by an orientation drive to see some of Rome’s famous sights.
Sat. Nov. 3 Today you visit the Vatican Museum, and Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel with its famous frescoed ceiling. You will then walk through St. Peter’s Square and Basilica, the largest church in Christendom, where you will be shown the “Divine Name” (Awake 7/8/01, p. 14). Next, you will visit the 2,000 year old Colosseum, site of gladiator fights and the Circus Maximus, where “Ben Hur” chariot style races were once held.
Sun. Nov. 4 Depart Rome by motorcoach into the Tuscan countryside. See the Chianti vineyards and olive groves before crossing the Apennine Mountains into the romantic city of VENICE, that is known as one of the most remarkable cities in the world. Tonight, enjoy an Italian dinner at the hotel.
Mon. Nov. 5 Today you will visit a Murano Glass-Blowing workshop, followed by a boat ride to St. Mark’s Square. Here you will see the magnificent Doge’s Palace with its famous Bridge of Sighs. (Awake 507, p. 23) This lovely city is filled with canals and gondolas and is the only city without cars, as there are more than 150 canals used as streets built on 114 islands in the sea. Gondolas and motorboats are used as taxis, making everyone simply fall in love with Venice. Rest of the day and evening is free to shop and enjoy dinner at one of the Tavernas known for its pasta. You can take a gondola ride or attend a classical Italian concert in a 14th Century music hall with your Tour Escort.
Tue. Nov. 6 After breakfast, depart to VERONA, home of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. You will then drive through the Apennine Mountains to FLORENCE, birthplace of the Renaissance. Tonight, a special Italian dinner is included.
Wed. Nov. 7 Enjoy a walking Tour of this medieval town. You’ll see many points of Biblical interest, including the architecture and history by Botticelli and Leonardo da Vinci. Walk over the famous Ponte Vecchio Shopping Bridge to see the multicolored Duomo and Piazza della Signoria. Your Tour Escort will have suggestions on where to find handmade Italian leather goods and jewelry at bargain prices. Be sure to try some Italian Gelato.
Thu. Nov. 8 Today the highlight will be the breathtaking coastal drive high above the cliffs to the resort town of SORRENTO, including dinner at the hotel.
Fri. Nov. 9 Another exciting day as you cross the Bay of Naples on a ferryboat to the ISLE OF CAPRI. Later you will return to Sorrento and visit an inlaid woodworking factory to see the production of this local craft. Tonight, you will enjoy dinner at a famous Italian restaurant.
Sat. Nov. 10 The highlight today will be exploring the excavations of the ancient city of POMPEII, which was buried by volcanic ash when Mount Vesuvius erupted back in 79 A.D. You will then return to Rome for a special “Farewell Dinner” with all of the Friends travelling on this Tour.
Sun. Nov. 11 “Arrivederci Roma” as you are transferred to the airport for your return flight to the USA. As you can see, a lot of extras are included plus some surprises, making this a great trip you do not want to miss!
